Bush clinic
The clinic exists since 1994 and provides help to approximately ten thousands inhabitants. Daily we serve from ten to over sixty (during epidemic) patients of this mainly rural area. The building of this clinic has three rooms. One is admission room for providing minor treatments and giving out medications. One is a laboratory for studying tropical diseases. A special analyst is engaged for that work. And the third one is a children's clinic and inoculation centre. The building was built in the seventies and needed major renovation. The roof had to be replaced before we could start accepting patients.
People walk to the clinic some ten km., barefoot. Up until now our clinic has been serving everybody who came, even if they had no money. Because of this the demand for medications has increased beyond our financial capabilities. Thus, we have a situation of either sending patients out into 40°C without help, or get into debt and buy in order to help them. Recognizing problems of these people and conditions in which they live, allowed us to draft projects that could, to a large extend, help to resolve those problems.
Our activities allow the poorest to have professional medical help including inoculations. The visible result of that work is reduction in mortality amongst children and reduction of child's ailments like measles, smallpox, tuberculosis, tetanus and hoping-cough. The effect of our preventive measures and house visits is greater awareness of personal and general hygiene amongst people.
